About Us

If you want to learn more about Sunny Ridge Kennels, you’re in the right place!

Our story

Our story began on the eastern plains of Colorado in 2010. At the time, our four young children were enjoying outdoor playtime as we watched from our large picture window. Unfortunately, we weren’t the only set of eyes watching their antics. Twenty yards away stood a large coyote who was very interested in their activities.

Not long after, Cinder joined our family as our first livestock guardian and resident nanny. A year later we were fortunate to adopt Buddy, our first AKC male. Romance was in the air, and within a few months, Sunny Ridge Kennels was born.

As we added another son to our clan and even a foster baby for a time, these amazing dogs were adaptable and willing to welcome new members to their flock. We have chosen our breeding operation to be an activity we do as a family. As parents we want to equip our children with life skills and provide them with opportunities to develop a strong work ethic.

We find joy in working alongside each other. Everyone has a job, whether it’s playing with and handling the puppies, training, cleaning pens, walking dogs, or even posting to social media. It’s been said that it takes a village to raise a child; we know it takes a family to raise healthy, vibrant and well-rounded puppies.

In 2016 we moved West, leaving the plains (and wind) behind and embracing the beautiful views and tall trees we have now in our backyard. With every litter we learn something new and we were able to use that knowledge to plan custom areas for our dogs.

There has been much investment in time and money to improve our property, but these improvements enrich the lives of our dogs, provide snug living quarters for our puppies, and give all our fury friends plenty of room to roam.

We love this breed as they not only provide us with protection for our animals and children, but also because they enrich our lives. We welcome the opportunity to work with your family to see if this incredible breed is right for you.

Our Facilities

What more could a dog ask for than acres of meadows and trees to roam and a custom designed “Puppy Palace” and “Sugar Shack” to rest and recover?

Puppy Palace

The Puppy Palace is a custom built miniature house where we welcome most litters. It was designed with high ceilings to give it an open, airy feel, windows to let in lots of sunlight and ventilation, insulated floors, ceiling and walls keeping it at a comfortable temperature all year round. The materials we chose, allow us to clean and disinfect easily and efficiently giving your future puppy a wholesome place to sleep and play. A large doggie door gives the puppies access to a fenced-in enclosure where they are able to get fresh air at will and also begin outdoor potty training.

Sugar Shack

The Sugar Shack was a garden shed that has been refurbished with new flooring, insulation, and doggie door. Primarily used for whelping in the summer time or when we have more than one litter.  Connected to nearly a 2 acre fenced in area, the “Shack” is a great place for our adult dogs to hang and get a change of scenery. Located at the front of our property, we are greeted by giant, fluffy, smiling faces every time we travel the driveway.

Testimonials

A good reputation and respect are worth much more than silver and gold…

"After traveling around the state interviewing numerous Great Pyrenees breeders of the highest advertised quality, we came back to Sunny Ridge Kennels. Their dogs are beautiful, healthy, and in the end, we were just so impressed with the love, care, and high standards with which they raise and care for this special breed."
The Hjelmstads
"We got our Great Pyrenees last summer from Sunny Ridge Kennels and we’ve been very pleased with our new addition. Our experience with Sunny Ridge Kennels was great! The whole process was smooth and seamless from the day we picked him out to the day we brought him home. We would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a Great Pyrenees."

Three Times the Charm

Our beautiful Delilah girl was from Cinder and Buddy and she is still the best dog we have ever known! Although she is definitely a stoic & stubborn Pyr from time to time! Our little Daisy baby has the sweetest temperament and is such a loving girl who is always so eager to please. Our girls were by far the best decision we ever made and we can’t wait to add a little (big) brother to our family in March of 2019!
